Cinema Akil is Dubai's only art house cinema and it's left a massive gap in our inspiration situation since it temporarily shuttered due to the ongoing global pandemic.

Now, it's set to return on Friday, June, 12 with some all-important safety measures in place.

Seats have been sectioned to reduce the capacity to 30 per cent and ensure a two-metre space between guests. Everyone needs to wear a mask and there will be temperature checks at the door.

There'll be daily fogging and sanitisation of the vivid red interior, with its plush seats rescued from Dubai’s last standalone cinema.

You can only book online for only one film that will be screened from Tuesday to Saturday. Opening times have changed to 6pm to9pm and the cinema is closed on Sunday and Monday.

More good news - chai and snack bar Project Chaiwala will be open on the same days from 1pm to 9pm.

First film on the schedule is Michael Winterbottom’s A Trip to Greece, the final film of the series where we will follow British comedic duo, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.
