Anantara Kalutara launches app showcasing Geoffrey Bawa’s architecture at resort

Anantara Kalutara has launched a new app which showcases the beautiful architecture on display at the resort, which was partially designed by Geoffrey Bawa.

Sri Lanka’s most famous architect began working on the project back in 1995.

The main building is a prime example of his signature aesthetic of sunlit, breezy structures which are at one with their surroundings.

Users of the app will be able to explore the resort, which was one of the final works of the father of the Tropical Modernist style, from the comfort of their homes.

Darren Darwin, general manager of Anantara Kalutara Resort, said, “We are very proud to introduce this interactive journey.

“Geoffrey Bawa’s designs and architectural vision are integral to the guest experience. We welcome you to download the app and join us on an inspirational tour.”

Following Bawa’s illness and death in 2003, the project lay dormant for 15 years, until Channa Daswatte, one of his protégés, completed his vision.

The resort library is also modelled on his personal study, and has furnishings designed by him inside.

Fittingly, the resort is just minutes away from Bawa’s homestead, Lunuganga.
You can download the app on Apple Store or Google Play.
