Abu Dhabi arts centre has awarded grants to 30 artists impacted by the worldwide coronavirus pandemic.

The art neighbourhood in Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, launched a revival fund for the MENASA region in May 2020.

Now from 144 applications, successful applicants will be given $2,000 (AED 7,300) each to continue their projects.

Among those chosen by jurors to receive cash injection are the UAE's Rawdha Al Ketbi, Shailesh Ramamurthy from India, and Morocco-based Mariam Souali.

Emirati visual artist Rawdha is using concepts of memories and time to create a multimedia installation, while sculptor Shailesh is working on two pieces for Colomboscope Festival 2020 in Sri Lanka. Five paintings by Mariam will depict historical large-scale social and natural calamities.

Shortlisted projects were selected based on regional relevance, budget and project viability, and career impact and the fun will cover the costs of the artists finishing the projects while isolating at home.

Some of the finished works will have the opportunity to be exhibited at Warehouse421, which has re-opened with social distancing measures in place.
