Determined to make his fortune, Shetty left his small town of Kalavara in India at the age of 18 and headed to Saudi Arabia. His first independent opportunity in the region came when he was 25 and offered a lease on a Dubai hotel – the beginning of the Ramee Empire.
In the past year Shetty oversaw the opening of the Mutrah Hotel in Oman, along with a number of hotels in India.
Shetty boasts 37 Ramee properties in operation across the UAE, Bahrain, Oman and India, but there is more to follow in 2012. Ramee Grand Hotel and Spa will be operational by Q4, 2012. It will be the tallest five-star hotel in Bahrain.
The group is also finalising drawings for two five-star properties in UAE, one in Dubai’s Business Bay and the second hotel on Abu Dhabi’s Reem Island.
