Dur Hospitality aims to strengthen its presence in Makkah and Madina as it focuses on expanding the Makarem brand in the holy cities, Hassan Ahdab, president of hotel operations at the company told Hotelier Middle East.
Apart from Makarem, Dur is also in expansion talks across Saudi Arabia for its portfolio of owned assets. Currently the company is building hotels in Al Jubair, Jeddah and Yanbu to name a few.
Dur is spending where opportunity lies, according to Ahdab. They have set growth plans for the next five years to break into emerging destinations within the Kingdom. Direct discussions with a few megaproject developers are currently ongoing to establish Dur’s presence, either directly or with an international partner, Ahdab reveals. However he did not disclose the details of the projects.
In line with its expansion plans, Dur Hospitality also acquired Shada Homes Company, a local serviced apartment brand, in January.
Looking at the wider region, Dur currently does not have plans to expand outside Saudi Arabia, at least within this year. However, Ahdab does not write-off a potential move outside the Kingdom saying they will do so, when the right opportunity comes.
“There is still a lot of room in Saudi Arabia to grow, more than what lies outside. Investors from neighbouring countries are coming to the Kingdom, this is not the right time for us to move out. When the opportunity arises, we will definitely consider it," he said.
