Dubai is now offering tourists a temporary alcohol licence for free.

According to reports, non-Muslim tourists can now apply for the 30-day licence in the Emirate.

Tourists can visit any Maritime and Mercantile International (MMI) store, with their original passport and sign a form confirming that the buyer is a tourist, data by MMI’s website revealed.

A copy of the passport and the entry stamp will be taken and the tourist will be issued a code of conduct leaflet in regard to alcohol consumption in Dubai.

Instructions on the website said: "Please ensure that you read this (code of conduct) to ensure you are respectful of the country, its rules and its people that you are visiting."

Currently, Dubai resident visa holders are eligible for a two-year licence that allows them to buy alcohol from shops and store it at home.
