As part of a tightening of food safety laws in the city, the Municipality of Muscat has mandated all restaurants and cafes to install CCTV.

According to the Oman Observer, it’s to help civic authorities detect any kind of an anomaly while handling food inside any food establishments.

Last year over 800 warnings on food violations were issued a month, with an average of 137 closures during 2018.

CCTV will be mandatory in restuarants and cafes, fast food eateries, public kitchens, food processing plants, mills, slaughterhouses, shopping malls, and food storage areas.
