Marriott Dubai has described housekeepers as “fundamental” for hotel properties and efforts should be made to connect with senior management.
Speaking at the Executive Housekeepers Forum 2019 at Dubai’s Grosvenor House Hotel, Marriott Dubai’s complex executive housekeeper Pamini Hemapraba said that housekeepers are becoming more “recognised” within the hospitality industry.
However, she explained that connecting with hotel management was among the challenges.
“Housekeepers are looking after owner’s billion dollar worth property – this is the biggest point for us to senior staff,” said Hemapraba. “Don’t weigh us with numbers, we are fundamental to properties.”
Hemaprabha also addressed the audience and asked: how to connect with management?
Among the responses in the room were that nobody within a hotel property should carry an “ego” and everyone needs to work as a team.
Other topics discussed were how emotionally engaged hotel staff are with their housekeepers, as well as physical and mental wellbeing.
