The past five years has seen more growth in the four star hotel segment in Dubai, with an increase need for the midscale segment moving forward, according to TRI senior consultant Philippe Vercruysse, senior consultant, TRI consulting.
The need for more midscale hotels will increase “as the emirate starts to tap into more mass markets such as China and Russia’s Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for example,” said Vercruysse.
“This is going to be a key success factor in Dubai attaining its objectives in term of visitors’ numbers,” he added.
He also said that the profile of visitors is also expected to change. “It’ll be less of a cookie-cutter approach. [There will be] more millennials (coming from the mass markets) coming in looking for different experiences, less big brands and more lifestyle experiences driven,” he said.
