I joined Millennium Hotels & Resorts six years ago. My professional career in hospitality started in 1995. My first role was that of a stock clerk. After managing the position of purchasing supervisor, I was promoted to the purchasing manager in 2011.
What specific products are you are on the lookout for?
We usually try to find local suppliers who work with products made in Oman. It allows us to negotiate directly and get better rates wherever possible, as well helps support the local community.
Millennium Resort Mussanah is located outside of the city. Because of the distance, it is often difficult to get a delivery of a small number of products to the property. Considering a very dynamic operation of the hotel and short booking lead time, especially typical for a local market, finding the suppliers who can be flexible and deliver products upon request is crucial for providing the best quality service to the guests.
Tell us about one of your most successful deals?
Millennium Resort Mussanah recently launched a special project under the hashtag #OmaniMade. We allow our guests to experience beverages and dishes created from the most common food products produced in Oman: dates, rosewater, labneh, honey, halwa, and coffee.
As a purchasing manager, I look for the best suppliers from the neighbourhood of Mussanah, the area where our resort is located. I am very proud of this project as we are able to get excellent proposals that are not only cost-effective with great quality products but at the same time we contribute and support the local community.
Quality is one of our main criteria. We always try to get the best quality materials from the market. We have to ensure that the products meet all specifications and hygiene standards. Purchase managers are also responsible for sustainable sourcing, which is very important for our resort.
