Six months into his role, Guy has overseen a strong period of growth. Last year, Rotana expanded in to Marrakech after signing Palmerai Palace and Hotel du Golf with a total of 640 keys. The group also signed the Business Bay Rotana in Dubai with 350 keys and the Tanmia Arjaan in Muscat, Oman with 100 keys. The growth shows no signs of abating with 14 hotels set to open before the end of 2020, adding 4,102 rooms to its portfolio.Hutchinson, who joined the group in 2014 as the chief operating officer, is the brains behind the roll-out and implementation of ‘Ideas’, Rotana’s revenue management system, across all hotels.
Talking about his vision for the company he said: “Our exceptionally strong product offering and level of service have allowed us to reach the hearts of our guests and the desired market recognition over the last 26 years.”One of Hutchinson’s ideas was a direct distribution agreement with Airbnb in Dubai. Speaking about the Airbnb pilot scheme, Hutchinson said: “This is the first time in the UAE a hotelier has entered into an agreement with the online marketplace and hospitality service listings company.”
Outlining his overall vision for the future of the company, he said his goal was to “create a meaningful difference by continuing to be different from our competitors, but always relevant to our guests. My priority will always be to help Rotana pioneer experiences that meet the evolving needs of guests, achieve our target of managing 111 hotels by 2020 and double that to over 200 by 2030 to bring genuine hospitality to new markets.”Currently, the group handles 65 hotels in the Middle East and North Africa region with 17,310 keys. Rotana also has 47 hotels and 12,056 keys in the pipeline.
An industry veteran with 30 years of experience working in the hospitality business, Hutchinson is also an Advisory Board Member of the Global Hotel Network.Hutchinson has played an instrumental role in strengthening Rotana’s leadership credentials in global markets, driving the company’s quality standards and financial performance and ensuring the scalability of its business model with a view to creating shareholder value.
