Panos Loupasis, Vice President Development, Middle East, Eurasia & Africa of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts who has 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry is number 9 on Hotelier Middle East's Power 50 2019 list.

Having taken over his role three years and eight months ago, Loupasis has been the one of the forces behind Wyndham’s growth in the MENA region.

“I have been proud to have overseen a number of important brand entries in new markets across the region. In particular, we’ve seen tremendous growth and significant signings within the UAE and Saudi Arabian markets over the past year,” Loupasis said.

In December 2018, Wyndham introduced two more of its brands in Saudi for the first time. They were Wyndham Garden Damam and Howard Johnson Dammam Cornish Street. Last year also saw the launch of two other hotels in KSA. Namely, Ramada by Wyndham Al Khobar King Abdullah Street and Ramada by Wyndham Dammam Khaleej Road. These openings further strengthened Wyndham’s offering within the mid-market sector in the Kingdom, bringing its total up to 15 operational hotels and more than 2,300 rooms with three more properties in the pipeline.

The group also signed a new property in Dubai, Wyndham Garden, which will launch in 2020.

In addition to that, three new hotels will be launched as part of the Deira Waterfront Development by Ithra Dubai. When opened, these hotels will bring two new brands — Super 8 by Wyndham and Days Inn by Wyndham, as well as an additional Wyndham hotel to the UAE.

Loupasis said: “With a robust pipeline of 22 additional properties planned between now and 2023, we will continue to leverage our solid foundation and experience as a global hospitality powerhouse, as well as our aggressive expansion plans, to further expand our midscale footprint across the Middle East region and help bridge this gap in the sector.”

The group is also making a market entry in the GCC in Kuwait, where they have established the Ramada Encore by Wyndham brand in Kuwait City.

“With the enormous opportunities that this region offers, we have an optimistic outlook for the future. We will continue to build on our presence and strengths by focusing on growing our portfolio where we know travellers want to be.” he added.

Currently, the group operates 56 hotels and 10,840 rooms in the MENA region, and a total of 22 hotels and there are 4,312 hotel rooms in the pipeline.
