Hospitality group Marriott International has announced that it is currently investigating a possible breach of its customers’ information.
An “unexpected” amount of guest information may have been accessed using two employee logins at one of the group’s franchised hotels. Marriott believes that the activity started in mid-January and could have resulted in up to 5.2 million guests having their information accessed.
The information accessed by the breach includes email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, loyalty account information, companies, birthdays, linked airline programmes and room preferences.
Marriott added that there is no reason to believe the information included passport information, passwords or credit card details.
With 30 brands including W Hotels, the company is alerting those affected and has started a website and call centre.
