Kuwait International Airport has announced it will stop all commercial flights to and from the country.

Starting on Friday (March 13), the operational freeze will go on until further notice, with only select cargo flights being authorised.

Reported by sister publication Arabian Business, the country has also announced a public holiday from March 12 to 26, with work resuming on March 29. Arabian Business added that the country will forbid its residents meeting in cafes, restaurants and other commercial areas.

The airport made the decision after reports that the number of coronavirus cases have been rising in Kuwait. According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) 51st situation report, the country has 69 confirmed COVID-19 cases, making it one of the worst-hit countries in the Middle Eastern region.
