The Dubai World Cup, set to take place on March 28, has been postponed to 2021.
Announced by the Dubai Media Office, the 25th edition of the race has been moved to ensure the safety of all those taking part. According to the Office, the higher organising committee thought it best to move the global event to next year.
The Dubai World Cup 2020 was initially planned to take place this year, despite mounting concerns around the coronavirus. As a compromise, the Meydan Grandstand event was to be held without live spectators, similar to how Formula 1 events have been reworked.
Across the UAE, bars, select restaurants, beaches, cinemas and various other tourist and entertainment destinations have been closed to curb the spread of the virus.
According to the World Health Organisation’s latest situation report, the UAE currently has 140 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
