The Sharjah Executive Council has decided to extend its suspension of social activities in the emirate. According to state news agency WAM, these include all social and sporting events, along with celebrations in wedding halls, event halls, hotels and government facilities.
In line with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Executive Council, the suspension will be upheld until the end of April, at which point it will be reviewed.
The extension was made in light of the developing COVID-19 pandemic and the UAE’s efforts to stem the spread of the virus. According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) latest situation report, the UAE has 468 confirmed cases of COVID-19.The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) earlier in March announced an emirate-wide awareness campaign to support hotels in stopping the spread of coronavirus. SCTDA pledged to conduct inspections across properties to ensure they all uphold hygiene, disinfection and sterilisation measures.
