In an effort to combat food waste both globally and in the UAE, a food-waste reduction app has launched in the country.
FoodKarma partners with restaurants, cafes and F&B outlets and vendors to give app users food that would otherwise be thrown.
Users can choose to dine-in at the partnering venues or have the food delivered.
Entrepreneur Eugenie Dronneau created the app to help businesses in the region become more sustainability-minded.
According to FoodKarma, a third of all food produced globally each year is wasted, equating to 1.3 billion tonnes and US$1 trillion worth of food lost. In the UAE alone, AED13 billion ($3.5 billion) worth of food is thrown away, amassing 3.27 million tonnes of waste annually.
