Since 2015, female travel has been growing by 33% year-on-year at Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) properties, making it one of the fastest growing travel segments for the group.

According to research from IHCL, female travellers account for 34% of the group’s occupancy rate. Female travellers also play a key role in the leisure industry, responsible for 85% of all consumer purchases in India.

Of the 1,000 ladies surveyed by IHCL, 61% said a butler service at a hotel would sway their booking decision favourably, with 69% saying personal shoppers would do the same.

IHCL SVP of global sales & marketing Renu Basu said: “We, as a global organisation, not only recognise the contribution of women in the industry and society at large, but are also cognizant of their increasing value as a growing influence on business.”

Basu added: “Brands that make the effort to actively and holistically engage with women travellers will definitely stand to gain over the coming decades.”
