The company’s report, Global Ethylene Dichloride (EDC) Industry Outlook to 2023 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants, reveals that Asia is expected to have a new-build and expansion EDC capacity of 1.72 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2023.Dayanand Kharade, oil and gas analyst at GlobalData, says: “‘Wanhua Chemical Yantai Ethylene Dichloride Plant’, ‘Shenhua Yulin Ethylene Dichloride Plant’, ‘HPCL GAIL JV Kakinada Ethylene Dichloride Plant’ and ‘Reliance Industries Dahej Ethylene Dichloride Plant’ are the four new-build and expansion projects in Asia, which will account for the entire capacity growth by 2023.”
GlobalData identified North America as the second highest region in terms of capacity additions in the global EDC industry. The region will add a new-build capacity of 1.38mtpa from a planned project, Shintech Plaquemine Ethylene Dichloride Plant, which is expected to start operations in 2021.The Middle East is the only other region with new-build EDC capacity of 0.16mtpa by 2023. The entire capacity addition will be from an announced project, Shaheen Chem Investments Abu Dhabi Ethylene Dichloride Plant. This project is expected to come online in 2023.
