Concerns about young, emerging talent in the energy industry are not new in the Middle East. However, companies in the region are investing heavily to bring in skilled engineers and executives to its core operational activities. There are many incredible stories of young workers in the region’s energy sector, whose performance has made a difference to the functioning of the organisation and the industry. This award recognises an employee aged 30 and younger whose work has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on his/her company over the past 18 months.

Helal Suhail Al Mazrouei has worked at various sites, including the Borouge plant in Ruwais, as well as Borealis’ Linz and Schwechat plants in Austria. During the rotation programme at Borealis Linz, he had an active role in researching and testing a set of new catalysts intended to enhance the chemical reactions across Borealis’ sites. The feedback received from Borealis team recognised Al Mazrouei’s enthusiasm and drive to add value to any team, or project he gets involved with.

“I am honoured to receive the Young Energy Professional of the Year Award and blessed to have been selected as the winner amongst such a competitive talent pool. I am grateful for the opportunity I have within Mubadala’s Petroleum and Petrochemicals platform and believe this award is testament to the positive environment created within the organisation that allows the young talent to excel, through the Future Energy Leaders Program,” said Al Mazrouei.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mubadala Investment Company and our platform CEO Musabbeh Al Kaabi for providing me with unique opportunities to develop myself and advance my career.”

The ‘highly commended’ nomination in this category is for Fajer Ahmad, petroleum engineer, Kuwait Oil Company.
