DP World once more won Supply Chain Hub of the Year at the Logistics Middle East Awards 2019, a testament to the effort it makes to maintain its competitive edge, according to Abdulla Bin Damithan, commercial officer, UAE region.
“This award is a testament to our competitive edge in the market, which we try to maintain by never thinking of ourselves just as a port operator, but as a trade enabler,” he said. “We take care of our customer from the first mile to the last mile, in terms of logistics, freezones, ports and the entire supply chain.”
DP World operates Jebel Ali Port, the largest seaport in the Middle East, a premier gateway for over 90 weekly services connecting more than 140 ports worldwide. Expansion currently underway at the port will bring total handling capacity to 22.4 million containers annually by 2019.
In addition, the port operator recently announced the BOXBAY concept, a High Bay container storage system that will significantly expand the volume of container that can be stored at Terminal 4 in Jebel Ali Port.
“High bay is one of many innovative projects that we have at the moment, either in the execution phase or the exploratory phase,” said Bin Damithan. “Innovation is in our DNA and this is evident with projects like the High Bay, Hyperloop and other projects intended to increase the efficiency of trade.”
The Logistics Middle East Awards, hosted by the magazine Logistics Middle East and its online platform LogisticsMiddleEast.com, are an annual event that celebrate excellence in the supply chain, with categories that are intended to reflect the specialisation by vertical of various logistics and supply chain stakeholders.
Nominations for next year’s event will open in August, 2019.
