Chinese consumer and industry tech giant Huawei, it was reported recently, restructured its business setup to help itself against US sanctions on its supply chain and production.

According to a report in Bloomberg on Monday, Huawei Technologies founder Ren Zhengfei called for a three-to-five year overhaul to help it survive a possible "American onslaught" while protecting its lead over its competitors in the next-gen wireless industry.

The report hints at major structural shifts, with the consumer business about to face a "painful long march," according to Zhengfei. He added that the revamp was imperative "to meet wartime needs," but didn't expand on the hows of the restructure.

In an internal memo accessed by Bloomberg and confirmed by a spokeswoman within the company, Zhengfei wrote, "We have to complete an overhaul in harsh and difficult conditions, creating an invincible iron army that can help us achieve victory. We absolutely have to complete this re-organization within three to five years."

Firing shots at the US, Zhengfei also wrote on their lead in 5G. "The U.S. doesn’t use the most advanced 5G technology. That may leave it lagging behind in the artificial intelligence sector."
