Sharing the news on Twitter, Ninja said in a scripted press-con styled ad, "I feel like this is a very good chance to remember why I fell in love with streaming in the first place. [...] It's the same me; just a different platform." He added in an attached tweet, speaking directly to his audience, "I'm freaking out in the best of ways, and I'm just excited to finally get back to my streaming roots."
The move looks like a win-win for both Ninja and Mixer-while the live-streamer's peak viewership crossed 95,000 views, averaging at around 65,000 through his first stream, the platform on the other hand has seen a sharp uptick in app-store downloads.
According to a recent blog post by Randy Nelson, head of insights at app-analytics intelligence company Sensor Tower, the app sits at number one at the moment, which is an abrupt rise from its previous position of number 750 before Ninja's announcement.
Nelson added, "This is likely just the first salvo of many to come in the escalating battle between gameplay streaming platforms. While Ninja is one of the most well-known and followed figures in the space, he will undoubtedly not be the last to switch sides now that Microsoft has proven the tactic can drive such meaningful user growth."
