Online shopping transactions in Saudi Arabia grew 49.9% by volume in 2018.
According to figures from the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), the rate of e-commerce growth was up from 2017, when sales volumes grew by 47.9%. in 2016 sales were up 37.3%.
The CITC surveyed 10,000 users of telecoms services to find out their e-commerce habits.
The age group 20-24 years were most likely to be online shoppers. Women and men were equally likely to shop online.
For physical products, clothing, footwear and accessories was the most popular category, followed by computers and smartphones.
Online payments for shopping have diversified, 34% of users using online banking methods to pay, followed by credit cards (online withdrawal) at 28%, and online payment services such as PayPal at 5% of transactions. Prepaid gift cards or electronic coupons accounted for 4% of transactions.
