Brand USA targets Q4 for Middle East office

The tourism body responsible for the promotion of the United States of America is aiming to open a permanent representative office in the Middle East.

Speaking to Arabian Travel News Brand USA vice president of global market development Jay Gray noted: “Our US suppliers are really recognising the potential of this market. We have almost twice as many exhibitors as we did last year and clearly we are already seeing interest from people coming back.”

The body currently has representation in the region on a project basis, however, Gray noted there are plans to open an office in Dubai by the end of the year.

“We need to go through a proposal process and we have a process for setting up an office. But by Q4 we will have probably opened up an office and have a permanent presence here,” he added.

Talking about the routes between the Middle East and USA, Gray noted there had been a positive impact on tourism.

“There are so many new airline routes and right now we are seeing the influx into those gateways. But for us at Brand USA it is really about beyond the gateway. The routes that are opening up are ideal.

“Middle Eastern carriers are so aggressive right now in developing these new routes to the US, so we are partnering with Qatar, Emirates and Etihad to see how we can help make sure those routes are viable and encourage them to open new routes,” he concluded.
