Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded contracts worth AED203mn ($55.3mn) for 620km of 11kV power cables to a number of national companies.

The contracts cover the manufacture and supply of the aluminium and copper cables for expanding electricity distribution in various areas of Dubai.

"These cables will be used in several projects by DEWA and will contribute to increasing the capacity, efficiency and reliability of our distribution network and ensure an uninterrupted and reliable supply of electricity to our customers,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

“We expect the manufacture and supply of these cables will be completed by April 2015."
