A tender for 200 MW of solar capacity in Adam and Manah is expected this year, the Oman Daily Observer said, citing the Authority for Electricity Regulation Oman’s (AER) executive president.

Qais bin Saud al Zakwani has said the plan is to use a tendering process similar to that for conventional power plants. The large-scale solar parks will be built under the Independent Power Project (IPP) model, with the report mentioning a possible combination of concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaics (PV).

Solar radiation data has been collected since 2010 for Adam and Manah, under the supervision of Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWPC), to facilitate future development.

Oman is also working on a plan to promote small-scale solar development. The Oman Daily Observer recently said that AER is preparing minimum technical standards for rooftop solar and metering terms for the payments homeowners would receive for feeding solar power to the grid.
