Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world's largest district cooling services provider announced that it has distributed in collaboration with The American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), complimentary copies of the ‘District Cooling Guide for Building Owners’, to all universities having mechanical engineering department, in Dubai and across the UAE.
Empower highlighted that this is part of its plan to promote district cooling technology among undergraduate students, encourage universities to incorporate district cooling systems into their curriculum, and support to implement the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
“The District Cooling Guide for Building Owners will provide the undergraduate students studying mechanical engineering, with a unique experience to learn about this field. It delivers the basic information on the advantages of district cooling services and systems, and the techniques to install and operate these systems easily. It also enhances the passion and awareness levels of future engineers about the importance of adopting district cooling systems in designing future cities,” said Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.
“The guide includes guidelines, explanation on the designing process, how to improve cooling systems, and the integration of the concept of thermal storage technology into a district cooling system. It is a valuable reference for those interested in district cooling systems, notably, specialists, engineers, consultants, experts, cooling system engineers, central plant design engineers, and others,” added Bin Shafar.
“Youth are the foundation of the district cooling industry. It is important that they learn about the latest global trends in this sector, which is aimed at enhancing sustainability locally and globally. This will contribute to shaping their future and making further achievements by preparing a qualified generation that works to preserve the environment,” noted Bin Shafar.
“Empower aims to increase awareness about environmentally friendly services, promote district cooling systems, and effectively contribute to supporting the great vision of our leaders. Our wise leadership pays pronounced attention to sustainability, and to addressing the challenges of climate change, which is a real obstacle to growth and prosperity,” highlighted Bin Shafar.
“Moreover, Empower is involved in the implementation of several sustainability strategies, notably the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which seeks to increase the contribution of clean energy in the total energy mix to 50%, the National Climate Change Plan 2017-2050, and the long-term national initiative to build a green economy in the UAE under the slogan ‘A green economy for sustainable development’, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which lead the UAE to become pioneer in the field of the new green economy globally,” continued Bin Shafar.
In 2013, Empower sponsored the launch of the ‘District Cooling and Heating Guide’ published by ASHRAE. Empower was the sole cooling company to contribute supplemental funding that enabled ASHRAE to develop the guide, making it the most respected for specialists in the heating and cooling sector all over the world.
Empower provides district cooling services to more than 1,090 buildings, catering to more than 100,000 customers. The company operates more than 1.43 Million Refrigeration Tons (RT), providing environmentally friendly district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Bluewaters, Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, International Media Production Zone and others.
