The Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) has signed collaboration agreements with Ajman’s Municipality and Planning Department, and Ajman Free Zone, to cooperate on projects that benefit the community, ensure sustainable development, and enhance services.
The Authority signed the agreements as it took part in the 21st Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2019). The MoUs were signed by FEWA’s Director General Mohammed Mohammed Saleh; Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman, and Fatima Salem, Acting Director General of Ajman Free Zone.
Under the agreement with Ajman’s Municipality and Planning Department, the Authority commits to installing and operating charging stations for electric vehicles in various locations, including City Life Mall - Al Hillah, Ajman Corniche, Ajman University, as well as the Secondary Technical School - Ajman Campus. This, in turn, reiterates FEWA’s support for local efforts to increase reliance on clean, renewable energy resources, in line with its vision and efforts to maintain a sustainable environment.
The second agreement with Ajman Free Zone calls for installing chargers for electric vehicles in designated areas in the Free Zone, which will be free of charge until 2020. At a later stage, additional charging stations will be installed in the northern emirates.
“The Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition is a global platform that provides access to the latest technologies and breakthroughs in renewable energy,” said Mohammed Saleh. “This year’s theme reflects the UAE’s plans to shift towards clean and sustainable energy sources. We, at the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, are participating in this global event and are committed to forging partnerships that help achieve our goals and harness clean and renewable energy sources to cater to consumer demands.”
“This unique gathering of influential decision makers, experts, analysts, and investors in the renewable energy sector is an opportunity for us to showcase our range of ground-breaking projects that seek to drive the transition towards clean energy,” H.E. added. “The agreements we have signed reflect the depth of our partnership with local authorities in Ajman; they indicate a high level of coordination that aims to enhance quality of life and provide clean and renewable energy sources. This is in line with the directives of our wise leadership, who always places people at the top of its priorities, and calls for ensuring their wellbeing.”
“The agreements are a milestone reflecting the dedication among government agencies, both at the federal and local levels, in implementing strategies that achieve a sustainable present and a green future,” Saleh concluded.
For his part, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, said that the Department is seeking, under the direct guidance of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, to streamline current and future coordination with all federal authorities, including the Federal Electricity and Water Authority.
“This allows the Department to benefit from the accumulated experiences and exchange studies and research to build a partnerships between the two entities to work together towards common strategic goals and develop customer services. It is a means for us to improve performance, operations, and processes to develop employees’ technical and administrative capacities,” Al Nuaimi explained. “The Ajman Municipality and Planning Department is proud of the national agenda drawn up by the UAE Government, most notably the project to install and operate electric charging stations for electric vehicles in locations across the Northern Emirates. We support this important initiative and will work in coordination with the Authority on all technical aspects of the projects and other related services.”
Fatma Salem, Acting Director General and CEO of Operations at Ajman Free Zone, applauded the cooperation with the Federal Electricity and Water Authority, saying: “These efforts reflect the Ajman Free Zone’s relentless endeavours to promote sustainability and the preservation of nature, and in alignment with the UAE Vision and Ajman Vision 2021, where sustainability is an essential pillar. For our part, we are exerting tremendous efforts, in cooperation with various government and private institutions and departments, to promote sustainability and the green economy and to launch several initiatives that will highlight this vital issue, including the installation of solar-powered lighting poles in the Ajman China Mall and other initiatives to be announced shortly, all of which focus on environmental conservation and sustainability.”
The Federal Electricity and Water Authority signed the agreements on the sidelines of its participation in WETEX 2019, part of Green Week in Dubai, which includes WETEX and the Dubai Solar Show, and coincides with the World Green Economy Summit (WGES) and the International Desalination Association (IDA) World Congress. The Authority showcased its projects and initiatives at the event, which seek to drive the transition towards clean and renewable energy, in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.
